Police Blotter: Scam Had Flaw – UPS Doesn't Deliver Certified Mail

A Sandalwood Drive woman called at 11:10 a.m. Nov. 12 after getting a phone call that UPS would be delivering by certified mail at 11:30 a.m. Nov. 14 a check for more than $5 million from "MegaMillions Las Vegas," which received her name from a random drawing. She said UPS told her they don't deliver certified mail, which made her think it was a scam.

Flooding was reported at 7:57 p.m. Nov. 14 on Bramblewood Lane.

A caller said the road was flooded at 6:23 p.m. Nov. 14 on Timberline Trail. Leaves were clogging up the sewer.

A SOM Center Road woman called at 12:11 a.m. Nov. 14 and said someone kept ringing her buzzer and then she saw flashlights in her back windows. Police said men were there to repossess the woman's car and were trying to contact her so she could get her possessions.

A fire was reported at 4:50 p.m. Nov. 13 in a ravine south of the Nature Center in the . Rangers said an ATV was needed to get to the fire. Fire personnel from Willoughby Hills, Mayfield Village and Gates Mills were sent to put out the log fire, which was out at 6:33 p.m.

A school district transportation employee called on Nov. 9 about a Robin Circle resident who installed sticks on the grass circle in the cul-de-sac. Buses were hitting the sticks. The same problem occurred three years ago and the resident was told that it was city property and he had no right to put up the sticks.

A SOM Center Road woman complained on Nov. 8 that another woman was taking pictures of her.
