Police Blotter: Headphone Theft Foiled

An attempted headphone theft was prevented at Best Buy on Golden Gate Blvd. on the evening of June 18. A person in the store said they saw four boys steal a pair of headphones. Security had prepared to stop them before they left the store, and the youths were approached about the theft. One of them had the headphones and the money to pay for them. Best Buy chose to accept the money. They were told not to return.

Spray painting: A Mayfield Heights city employee reported spray painting on two stop signs, a no parking sign, a fire hydrant and on the street on Longridge Rd. and Eastondale Rd. on the morning of June 16. It was believed the vandalism happened the night before. The damage was photographed and special attention was given to the area. Some residents gave names of the people who might have been responsible.

Window broken: A man reported that juveniles broke the window on the front door of a business building on SOM Center Rd. during the evening of June 14. Maintenance was informed of the breakage and responded.

Trash litters sidewalk, yard: A Summit Dr. man found trash strewn across the sidewalk after hearing a loud bang at around 3 a.m. on June 15. An officer said it appeared someone drove up over the tree lawn and knocked over the trash coming southbound to westbound on Ridgebury Rd.

Solicitor causes disturbance: A Crestwood Rd. resident complained three males were trying to sell her windows and gave her a hard time about it around noon on June 16. She told them to leave her property. The men walked north on Crestwood and were told of the complaint. They said they would leave the area.

DUI on I-271: A woman was taken into custody for a DUI while driving on I-271 near Highland Rd. at 2:49 a.m. on June 12.

Harassing texts from former employer: A Ridgeview Rd. man said he kept receiving harassing texts from a man he once worked for the evening of June 14. The man said he no longer wanted to work for his former employer. The police were unable to contact the employer, and the communications initially ended for the night. About an hour later, the employer called the man again, but the police contacted the employer and he complied.

Noise at apartments: A SOM Center resident said three people, two men and a woman, were making too much noise at the Coppertree Apartments on June 15 at 4:39 a.m. They claimed they were staying with a friend at the complex but didn’t know the person’s name or apartment number. Police told them to leave the property.

Credit card theft: A woman shopping at Walmart on Mayfield Rd. said her credit card was taken out of her purse the evening of June 17. The credit card company said there were unauthorized charges on the card.

Stereo stolen: A Walmart employee reported that a stereo was stolen from the Mayfield Rd. store at night on June 17.

DUI, dangerous driving: A woman was charged with a DUI while driving northbound on I-271 near Brainard Rd. the evening of June 17. The woman was reportedly driving a red Jeep Cherokee all over the road.

A little too much speeding: An upset Ridgeview Rd. resident complained that cars kept using the street as a cut-through and several cars were speeding on the street in the early morning hours of June 18. A citation was issued.

Boys arrested: Two juvenile boys were arrested for throwing a bottle bomb into a hallway at the Comfort Inn on Golden Gate Blvd., on June 13. Officers came on the scene and found the boys in the parking lot.
