Police Blotter: Con Artist Helped Herself to Charitable Donation

A woman told police at 4:40 p.m. Aug. 18 that she was scammed by another woman the previous day at a Mayfield Road store. The suspect approached her and claimed to work for an organization that helps abused woman and children. The caller gave the suspect $5 and then checked with the organization, which said that the suspect was a fraud.

Three juveniles were screaming and running in the parking lot behind Target on SOM Center Road at 2:27 a.m. Aug. 21. A caller said the knocked over trash cans and moved a couple of benches. Police said nothing appeared to have been damaged.

A woman said a silver Jeep Wrangler hit her car and took off at 7:16 p.m. Aug. 21 at Giant Eagle on Mayfield Road. An officer said there was minor damage to the woman's car. She wasn't concerned about the damage, but that was the second time she saw the man that day and thought he might be stalking her.

An electrical line was on the ground at 6:24 p.m. Aug. 21 on Fox Hollow Drive. A caller reported being trapped in their apartment because the line was the release for the garage door. A dispatcher called the building manager and told him about the problem.

A caller said a couple were lying in the grass behind a Mayfield Road apartment building at 4:06 p.m. Aug. 21 and one was partially clothed. Police checked and both persons were wearing proper clothing.

A Ridgeview Road man called at 5:13 a.m. Aug. 21 and said there was someone inside his house. Police talked to seven suspects. They were identified and released.

An Orchard Heights woman called police at 6:44 p.m. Aug. 20 and said her husband's friend keeps calling her and saying she's the reason they are getting a divorce.

Lyndhurst police reported that a motorcyclist was traveling at more than 100 mph at 1:44 a.m. Aug. 20 on Mayfield Road. One minute later, Lyndhurst police called again and said the motorcycle crashed into a car at Mayfield and Lander roads. The man riding the motorcycle was taken to Hillcrest Hospital and then taken by LifeFlight to MetroHealth Medical Center.
