Police Blotter: City Handles Power Outage

Highland Heights suffered a city-wide power outage on July 17 that began at 9:30 p.m. that was resolved a little more than two hours later. The Cleveland Electric Illuminating company attempted to resolve the problem, while the city used generators to operate stoplights at the Franklin Blvd. and Wilson Mills Rd. intersection and at the Bishop Rd. and Wilson Mills Rd. intersection. A Brainard Rd. resident needed assistance opening a garage door, and two people on Ridgebury Blvd. needed oxygen during the outage.

Drug arrest: Police arrested an 18-year-old man on Radford Dr. with a felony warrant for drug possession and a misdemeanor warrant for possession of drug abuse instruments on the afternoon of July 16.

Mother, son arrested: Police took into custody a man who had a Highland Heights warrant and a Cuyahoga County felony warrant at a Bishop Rd. residence the early morning of July 12. Police said his mother was hiding him, and she was also arrested.

Busy at Kohl’s: security with the assistance of police stopped a woman from shoplifting the afternoon of July 18. She was approximately 30, wearing a green shirt and black pants. The store and police also stopped another woman for shoplifting, this time during the afternoon of July 16.

Golf balls go wrong way: An employee at the said young kids were hitting golf balls onto the course from the park end of Whiteford Dr. on July 18. Police were unable to locate them.

A full slate: A driver was cited for a DUI, a glaring headlight and driving in marked lanes at the intersection of Ford Rd. and Wilson Mills Rd. in the late evening of July 14.

Mailbox, sign hit: A Highland Rd. resident claimed a vehicle knocked down a mailbox sometime during July 13. An officer noticed a speed sign had also been downed. Police had no vehicle information at the time.

Two for the price of one: A Highland Heights resident was cited for setting off fireworks and contributing to the delinquency of a minor on the evening of July 13. A neighbor complained that fireworks had been blasting all day, and that they wanted it to stop.

Driving offenses: A Millridge Rd. resident was stopped on Wilson Mills Rd. and cited for driving under suspension, driving without an Ohio license and with expired plates on the evening of July 12.
