Police Blotter: Car Catches Fire on Mayfield Road

Information supplied by the Gates Mills Police Department

A car fire was reported at 9:35 a.m. June 4 in the area of Mayfield Road and West Hill Drive. Police and fire units were sent to the scene and the fire was extinguished. No one was injured. The driver of the car, a 46-year-old Chesterland man, said he was driving west on Mayfield when he noticed smoke coming from the engine compartment.

A fallen tree was blocking the east hill of Old Mill Road at 7:50 p.m. May 29. The tree also pulled down power lines. The roadway was closed for repairs and cleanup and reopened at 7:30 a.m. May 30.

A 911 caller reported an accident at 3:11 p.m. June 3 at Mayfield Road and West Hill Drive. Police said there were no injuries in the two-car crash. One driver, a 16-year-old Shaker Heights girl, was cited for failing to yield the right of way when turning left.
