Mayfield Police: Man Attacks Nurses, Bites Woman at Hillcrest

28-year-old Andrew J. Margheret was indicted on assault charges earlier this month for the hospital incident

A Kirtland man was indicted earlier this month on assault and burglary charges after police said he attacked nurses and tried to bite a patient at Hillcrest Hospital.

According to a News-Herald report, 28-year-old Andrew J. Margheret was indicted on three first-degree misdemeanor counts of assault and one third-degree felony count of burglary at Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas.

Police said the man entered the ICU after a doctor swiped an employee card. A nurse followed Margheret, who walked into the room of a 72-year-old female patient. Margheret told the patient she did not need her oxygen mask then removed it from her face.

Nurses then tried to pull him away from the woman. During that struggle, he tried to bite the patient in the face. According to the report, Margheret also hit one of the nurses in the face, shoulders, forearm, lower back and hip, leaving bruises.

He was restrained by the time officers arrived. Police said he tried to explain his actions by stating that he “looked into the sun and was told that he was a savior.”

“The safety of our patients, visitors and employees is a priority we take seriously. We commend the immediate response of our employees and are fully cooperating with the investigation.”

Margheret is scheduled to be arraigned on April 22.
