Truck on Fire on 271: Mayfield Heights Police Blotter

The following information was supplied by the Mayfield Heights Police Department

Incidents reported April 30 - May 1:

Truck on fire: Mayfield Heights Police and firefighters from the area responded on April 30 to Interstate 271 where a truck was on fire.

A caller first alerted police to a pulled-over Ford pickup truck that was smoking in the southbound lanes of 271 near the Mayfield Road exits at 7:27 p.m. Soon, the tire exploded and the city's fire department was dispatched.

By 7:34, the truck became fully engulfed. Firefighters from Mayfield Village and Highland Heights helped Mayfield departments, and cities north of Mayfield had portions of the highway shut down and diverted.

No driver was found in or around vehicle.

Stolen from another location: A Carter's Childrenswear employee called police at 7:10 p.m. April 30 to report that woman tried to return stolen merchandise to the Golden Gate location.

The employee told police she used the store's journal entries to determine that the woman had stolen the clothing from another Carter's location.

A hammer? A man from the 1300 block of Genessee Avenue reported exterior damage to his car.

The car had been parked in his driveway, and by 11:26 a.m., the man believed a vandal caused the damage. He told police he though someone hit it with a hammer.

The resident requested special attention at night, but asked for no further action by police.
