Man on County's Fugitive List Already Incarcerated

The Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department did not realize that Robert J. Cornelison has been behind bars since March.

One of the men listed in last week's Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department most-wanted fugitives list has been behind bars for months.

The department said Robert J. Cornelison, 29, failed to show for court dates related to the robbery of Zeppe's Pizzeria in Highland Heights on Nov. 14, 2012. It turns out, he has been incarcerated at the Belmont Correctional Institution since March 27, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction.

Cornelison is at Belmont for felony robbery charges in Lake County. His will be released on May 8, 2020.

David P. Synkowski, a county sheriff's department sergeant, didn't seem too surprised to learn this. He said similar mixups with fugitives list happen fairly often.

"Sometimes if (a fugitive) goes to court in another county and gets sent (to prison), our status may still be pending," Synkowski said.
