Hillcrest 100 Donates to Michl Scholarship Fund

Check for $1,000 presented to officer's family.

Police Department will be honored with a memorial scholarship fund.

Michl, whose accomplishments included starting the Juvenile Diversion Program, died on March 6, 2011. Kathy Michl, his wife of 26 years, was presented with a $1,000 check for the scholarship fund at Monday's City Council meeting.

The money was donated by Hillcrest 100, a nonprofit organization supporting area first responders in Mayfield Heights, Mayfield Village, Highland Heights, Gates Mills, Lyndhurst and Richmond Heights. Michl said a scholarship fund was a fitting tribute to her husband.

"As you know, Greg devoted much of his police work to the out of this city," said Michl, who was joined by children Melissa and Matthew.

Chief Joseph Donnelly said Michl's work with children made a difference in the community.

"It really gave them a second chance. He taught them to respect other people's property," Donelly said.

"It's been a tough 16 months and we miss him," he added.
