Fire Causes $25,000 Damage to Mayfield Heights House

Blaze was extinguished within 30 minutes.

A second-floor fire on Monday caused $25,000 damage to a house.

Multiple callers at about 8:38 p.m. Monday, May 21 reported seeing smoke coming from a second-floor window at 1101 Orchard Heights Dr. and firefighters were sent to the scene.

"When they arrived there was smoke coming from the structure. They found a room fire on the second floor," Mayfield Heights Fire Chief Bruce Elliott said.

Mutual aid was requested from Mayfield Village and Highland Heights and the fire was out within 30 minutes. The cause is being investigated, but Elliott said it appeared to be electrical in nature.

The fire was confined to one room, although there was smoke damage throughout the second floor. A resident was taken to Hillcrest Hospital for treatment for smoke inhalation.

"Luckily for us it was contained. It didn't get up into the ceiling or attic space or anything like that," Elliott said.
