Fire Causes $175,000 Damage to Mayfield Heights Home

A fire on Monday evening damaged most of the second floor and attic of a Cordova Road home.

Fire Chief Bruce Elliott said smoke was reported in the area at 6:15 p.m. Monday. He said when firefighters left the station they could see a large amount of smoke in the area by SOM Center Road and mutual aid was requested.

FIre personnel from Mayfield Village, Highland Heights, Lyndhurst, Pepper Pike and Richmond Heights responded. Elliott said there was a lot of smoke coming from the rear of the house and firefighters battled that while another crew went in the front door to mount an interior attack.

"Due to the amount of fire, the intense heat and the conditions, we activated a second alarm," he said. That brought firefighters from Beachwood, Gates Mills, South Euclid and Willoughby Hills. The fire was under control at 6:49 p.m.

Cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was home at the time of the fire. "As of last night, there were not a whole lot of clues," Elliott said.

A rough estimate of the damage was set at $175,000. He said the living room and kitchen were the only areas that can be saved.

"The fire consumed most of the second floor and attic area, as well as the rear section of the first floor," Elliott said. "My gut feeling is I don't know if they're going to repair it."
