Home Performance with Energy Star: For a fee of $50, a Good Cents Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified auditor will come to your home and perform a 3- to 4-hour comprehensive home assessment. A free carbon monoxide detector is included with your audit. You can opt to have your $50 fee refunded if you install an upgrade.
An array of tests includes furnace inspection, combustion analysis of your appliances, the blower door test, which will indicate air leaks in your home, as well as infrared camera to determine insulation levels and where air is leaving your home. A report will be written and list recommendations, as well as the projected energy savings for making the recommended improvements.
The Home Energy Assessment may include free home improvements such as: foam insulation, water heater pipe wrap, kitchen and bathroom aerators, HVAC filters, weather stripping, door sweeps, low flow showerhead, caulking, and duct sealing.
