Eddy’s family farm is not a newcomer; they’ve been in the area since the late 1800s. During that time the more things have changed, the more they’ve stayed the same. Horses and buckskin have given way to horsepower and low-rise jeans; however, apples, peaches, plums and fresh sweet corn have never gone out of fashion.
Bring your friends or bring your kids, but stop by Eddy’s to pick your own seasonal fruit, buy local items like free-range eggs, hand-knit hats. As the seasons change and you need a holiday gift, keep in mind that they create wonderful gift baskets.
The store is located in an outbuilding where people come to select the season's harvest. They also sell all types of vegetables, corn, cider, preserves, maple syrup, grape juice, pancake mixes, jams and pickles. If you feel inspired, but the oven is still a challenge, try the wonderful homemade pies and cookies baked by Janet. She'll never tell if you take off the wrap and serve it as your own.
October is apple month at Eddy’s. There are 13 varieties of apples available and most are pick your own. While you’re there, try some of their great blueberries or red/black raspberries, which are now in season.
Eddy’s is at 12079 Caves Rd. in Chesterland. You can reach them at 440-729-7842. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week. Visa and MasterCard are accepted.
