Mayfield Library Closed During Move to New Location

The new location at 500 SOM Center Road opens on Saturday

Mayfield area residents will have to do without a library in their community for the next five days.

The Mayfield Library will be closed today through Friday as the staff moves into its new, $11.7 million facility. Employees will spend the week moving the entire catalogue and machinery to the new location.

The new branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library at 500 Som Center Road in Mayfield Village will open at 2 p.m. on Saturday.

"We have planned opening-day activities," library system spokeswoman Hallie Rich said. "We hope people will check out materials and find something they want to to take home with them."

The Friends of the Mayfield Branch Library have also asked that any donations be withheld until after May 1 because of the move.

The grand opening is set for April 20, with the dedication event lasting from 2 to 5 p.m. The event is being billed as a "Birthday/Earth Day Bash" in honor of the library system's 90th year of existence and because it takes place one week before Earth Day.

The library system broke ground on the new branch last May. Panzica Construction Co. managed the project. The eco-friendly design was done by URS Corporation.
