Mayfield Heights Memorial Day Event Begins at 10 a.m. Monday

The keynote speaker is a city resident with two sons in the army

Mayfield Heights residents and officials will turn the parking lot of city hall into a place of remembrance on Monday morning.

That's where the city will host its annual Memorial Day ceremony at 10 a.m. The event will feature the Mayfield Heights Honor Guard and vocalist Sweta Dacca, a Mayfield Middle School student who will also sing at the Mayfield Village Memorial Day celebration on Sunday.

The keynote speaker is Jeanine Francioso, a Mayfield Heights resident who has two sons in the army, including one who was deployed to Afghanistan earlier this month.

"We hold the ceremony every year to observe the real meaning of Memorial Day," said Renee Augustine, executive assistant to Mayor Anthony DiCicco. "It's just an hour out of your day to recognize those who serve and have served our country."
