There’s a 65-acre slice of heaven calling your name, so listen up. It’s Bessie Benner
Metzenbaum Park, 7940 Cedar Road, Chester Township, tiny by most parkland
measures, but rich in peace and quiet.
The next time you crave an hour of those treasured qualities, head on over to the park and walk the Griswold Creek Trail, a delightful 0.2-mile stretch that includes a boardwalk across the stream and wetlands. Or take the paved Evergreen Trail loop through the beech woods and conifer plantation. If you want to “rough it,” take the 0.5-mile Summit Trail that ascends a sandstone knoll for a canopy view of the surrounding forest.
Go to http://www.geaugaparkdistrict.org/parks/bessiebenner.shtml to read about the park’s charming origins, and view a map to preview the lay of the land.
It’s a marvelous outing, and it’s free, free, free!
