On the Campaign Trail for Mayor of Mayfield Heights - Week 15

Today we are going to talk about the 50% challenge. Let's face facts.. Running for a political office is not an easy task, nor is serving your community, your country etc. The supporters all pat you on the back and wish you well, and the others... we will not mention that part.  You have to have a tough skin (try not to cry too often), as well as not letting the praises give you a false sense of security. You have to decide who you can trust, who you cannot, and who does not really care one way or the other.

Next, you have to educate people on elections, on local politics, on issues pertaining to your candidacy. I have been involved in our city for a long time, so I really understand Mayfield Heights Ordinances, and Charter. I was surprised to hear how many residents did not know that we have a Mayoral Run-off in our city if there are more than two candidates, there is a possibility of a runoff election.  Now, unlike a primary, we have a second election for the two highest vote getters the first Tuesday in December. Unless one of the candidates receive over 50% (plus 1 vote) of the vote. My goal is to receive that vote, over 50% of the vote for Mayor. Now, let me tell you why this is so important. The second election will cost the Mayfield Heights tax payers money a lot of money, possibly around $50,000.00, (not sure of the exact amount) that is a lot of money that could be spent elsewhere in our city.

It would save the inconvenience to the residents to have to vote twice, and a lot of people simply do not vote in the second election. (Looking at past history) Plus, it would eliminate the need for me to stand at the polls in December, risking frost bite. (LOL)
