This one's for the girls ...

All right ladies, this one is for you, this one is for the girls. Men, if you want to read this, maybe it will give you a little insight into a woman's mind.

Let's start with the basics here, like a simple shower. How is it that a man can take a shower, shave, wash their hair, get dressed and be ready for a wedding in 15 minutes? Fifteen minutes, I mean, please – it takes me longer to dry my hair, let alone straighten it, curl it, and most days it still looks terrible. Then let's get to the makeup – some women have their makeup routine down to a five minute regiment. While others can spend 30 minutes just applying mascara.

Speaking of makeup, why are there are so many kinds of mascaras, I never know which one to pick. Like one mascara makes your lashes stronger, another darker, another wider, another thicker, another longer ... Why can't they make one mascara that does it all? Invent that girls and you will be able to hire somebody to apply your makeup for you each morning, and if you are really lucky pick out your clothes, too! 

But still, we haven't gotten to the worse part of getting ready to go out, the dread of picking your outfit. Now unless you have planned ahead and tried on 20 or 30 dresses, you probably can find nothing to wear. I mean nothing. That dress that looks so good in the dressing room mirror never looks the same on me in the light of my bedroom mirror. Yet, may I add that a man can just throw on his shirt and pants and his most difficult task of the night, picking a matching tie. (Which usually we choose – LOL)

Having a raised three children, one with special needs, has never stopped me from wearing my makeup and doing my hair. I always have thought that if I look good, I will feel good. When my son was a baby and in the intensive care unit, I fixed my hair, wore my clean clothes and plenty of makeup. When I had cancer and couldn't stand up, yet alone take a shower, I insisted that I fix my makeup and wash my hair.

When my daughters were born I and I had no medication during childbirth, (this was before epiderals) I screamed I wanted a mirror. The nurse said I was not ready to push yet, and I looked at her like she was insane and told her I needed to check my makeup – duh. My cousin gave me the privilege of being with her to help coach two of her children being born. When she asked for a mirror, I knew exactly what she wanted, I handed her the mirror along with her makeup case.

Recently, my son was in the hospital in intensive care for four weeks and another several in a room. I was very upset, very scared of losing my baby, and never left his side day or night, yet low and behold, I made sure to fix my makeup and take showers everyday, of course, most importantly, I did not want to scare the hospital staff.    

Maybe I got this quirk from my grandmother, who never left her house without her pan cake (interpretation– foundation) red lipstick and, of course, panty hose. When my friends are feeling down or going through a rough time, I ask them if they want to fix themselves up a bit, I mean why look lousy if you feel lousy. Maybe my logic is silly, maybe my logic is vain, but the bottom line is, it makes me feel good about myself. Isn't that what really matters? So, when you have a bad day, put on a little eyeliner and lip gloss. Let's face it, (pun intended) if nothing else, it certainly can't hurt.
