$640 million ... That is what the Mega Millions lottery winner will receive.
They literally had a 1 out of 176 million chance of winning one of the largest lottery jackpots in history. According to National Geographic Magazine, "The odds of becoming a lightning victim in the U.S. in any one year are 1 in 700,000. The odds of being struck in your lifetime are 1 in 3,000."
So, let's face facts folks, the odds of winning the lottery are not too great, but you can dream. What would you do if you won $640 million (minus taxes of course)? My friends and I had great discussions on how we would spend the money. I got so excited talking to my cousin Jodi about winning the lottery that I ran to the store to buy myself something, she carefully reminded me to wait until tomorrow, and I had not won yet – LOL. So I reluctantly stopped myself from spending. Some say they would pay off their debts, buy new cars, houses, boats, vacations, and help their family and friends. It is such a difficult decision and so much fun to pretend. One thing I know for certain, if you won the lottery, you would become very, very popular.
If you won $640 million, would you become a different person? Would you change your lifestyle, quit your job? Move to another city, state, country? Would you take the lump sum or take the mere $24 million a year? Would you buy a new car? Would you build a mansion? Would you spend it quickly and end up broke in a few years? Would you share it or be greedy? Ah, so many options ... what would you do with that kind of money??
The first thing I would do is to pay off my dentist – LOL. I would try to help people with my money, at least those people that have been good to me throughout my lifetime. I would particularly help people with disabilities and build a fabulous facility for them to go to school and work. I would buy a new house for my son that was state of the art, completely handicapped accessible. I would ... I would ... I would. Oh well, the drawing is over and my number did not come up this time. I guess I will have to continue waiting, unless I am struck by lightning first. (LOL) Any way’s maybe I am better off – they say money is the root of all evil. But I think I can take that risk... I can keep dreaming right?
