Food Glorious Food

Food, glorious food, We're anxious to try it, Three banquets a day, Our favorite diet! Oh! Food, wonderful food, marvelous food, glorious food

Some people, like myself, just plain love food, while other people just eat to survive. It makes me wonder what makes some people love food while others could just care less. I just read that 64 percent of American woman are overweight and that 72 percentof men are overweight as of 2011– which makes me draw the conclusion that yes, most people love to eat!

When I go to a restaurant I am one of those people who is guilty of eating what I like, and I do not like healthy foods. I would rather eat what makes me happy and less of it than to eat a lot of healthy stuff; my logic is why not enjoy. ... My mother used to sing to us, "Let the diet start tomorrow, for today I drown my sorrow in a double, malted shake." I thought she meant that literally, LOL, since I happen to be one of those people who eat when I am sad or upset, and eat when I am happy and feeling great. I need no excuse to eat.

Food is a strange thing with people and I firmly believe that when you are in a relationship with somebody that having the same eating habits makes for a better relationship. Those who only eat to live do not belong with somebody who loves to eat; I mean how can that work? Can a vegetarian really get along with a meat eater? Can a person who keeps kosher be with a person who likes pork and shrimp? Can a health food person be with a person who loves to eat fattening foods? Probably not a good idea, since food is such a central part of our lives, you eat at weddings, you eat at funerals, you eat at parties, you eat pretty much everywhere you go, It's hard to avoid it!

There are people who like to sit at a bar and eat or just stand and grab a bite while they are drinking. Then you have people who refuse to eat when they are drinking at al – they do not want to "lose their buzz." I know a woman who only eats salads during the week and diet pop, yet on Sundays she allows herself to eat like a pig (literally). I know people who do not eat for days on end because they do not want to get fat, so they eat food only once or twice a week and drink diet pop the rest of the time, sounds very healthy. I know people who only eat fast food and rarely eat a healthy meal, nor do they cook at all in their homes.

You have families who sit down for dinner every night at 6 p.m. like clockwork and families who never eat together at all. I made my family dinner every night for many, many years and insisted that my children sit down and eat and learn proper table manners. That was important to me and I felt that they could sit at a table for half an hour to an hour every night and not be excused until the dinner was completely over.

Food is a great way to gauge some body’s personality in a lot of respects. The person who will linger over their dinner, sipping their wine and enjoying every morsel seems a lot more laid back than the person who eats in a hurry and rushes off to their next endeavor. Some people love nice restaurants, while others are happy eating at the local diner – I guess that is part of your personality traits also.

The bottom line is American’s spend a lot of money and time revolved around eating. Many of us live to eat, while some of us eat to live. The important thing is to be healthy and happy. I am hungry, now time for a snack!
