5 Things You Need to Know This Week

Women of Excellence luncheon, program highlighting WRHS exhibit scheduled

1. Women of Excellence luncheon will be at noon Wednesday at Executive Caterers. Speakers will be Connie Dieken, president of OnPoint Communications, Evalyn Gates, executive director of the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and Daisy Alford-Smith, CEO of Girl Scouts of North East Ohio. 2. The Write Time, Write Now writers group will meet at 7 p.m. today at the Cuyahoga County Public Library Mayfield Branch, 6080 Mayfield Road. Writers of any genre are invited to join.

3.  Mayfield Heights City Council will meet at 7:30 p.m. tonight. The agenda includes resolutions to purchase cars for the police department and apply for a grant for drug use prevention.

4. Highland Heights City Council will meet at 8 p.m. Tuesday. The agenda includes items to pay Tri-City Consortium on Aging for services and plans for the 2011 street repair program.

5. "Cleveland and the Civil War: Coming to Aid of the Union, 1861-1862" will be presented at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Cuyahoga County Public Library Gates Mills Branch, 1491 Chagrin River Road. Janice Ziegler, vice president for education and public programs at the Western Reserve Historical Society, will present the program highlighting the new exhibit at WRHS. To register, click here.
