Gilmour Dedicates New Shrine

The shrine was constructed with the aid of alumni family foundations.

Just before Gilmour Academy began its school year, it hosted a dedication for a new space on the campus created with the aid of three family foundations.

The "In Celebration of Family and Marian" shrine was constructed as a place for prayer and reflection. It contains the "In Celebration of Family" sculpture by A. Wasil and “Our Lady of the Assumption,” which was secured from a foundry in Pennsylvania, according to a new release from Gilmour.

Gilmour is just the third institution with Wasil's sculpture, along with the University of Notre Dame and Santa Clara University.

“Gilmour’s been a part of our family since 1961 and I just wanted to do something that I thought would be appropriate," Bob Hetzel, a 1965 graduate, said of the contribution his family made in memory of Mary Jane and Robert E. Hetzel Sr.

"My mother had a tremendous devotion to Mary as do I and, quite often, in our daily business, we forget about Mary. I just thought it would be a place where faculty, students, alumni, teachers and visitors could have a time to reflect as well as relate to the Catholic identity of Gilmour.”
