Mayfield Library Summer Reading Program Popular

Read Around the World runs through Aug. 6

There's still time to get on board with the Cuyahoga County Public Library's Read Around the World summer reading program.

Deborah S. Todd, public services supervisor for youth at the , said more than 1,200 children and adults signed up at Mayfield this year, including an entire fourth grade from a Richmond Heights school.

"It's up from last year," she said.

Participants in the program, also available at the and other branches, log hours spent reading and submit totals to the library for entries in two monthly prize drawings – the second one is Wednesday – and an end of summer grand prize drawing on Aug. 9. The summer reading program ends on Aug. 6.

Extra entries can be earned by finding caches hidden in every county library branch.

Todd said a big draw for the program are the prizes, which include books and tickets for places like the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, Cleveland Museum of Natural History, Cleveland Indians, Great Lakes Science Center and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

The grand prize drawing for 2011 includes a Chipotle burrito party for 25 people, suite packages for the Indians, Lake Erie Monsters and Cleveland Cavaliers, a family package for the Cleveland Browns, an overnight camp-in at the Great Lakes Science Center and memberships to the zoo, science center and natural history museum.

"Last year we had a quite a few winners from Mayfield, including Cavs tickets," she said.
