Moms Talk Q & A: Meet the Hillcrest Patch Moms Council

Members introduce themselves and share the best parenting advice they've received

Each week the council will answer a question on parenthood posed to them by readers or another member of council.

Because this is their first week, we wanted to give them a chance to introduce themselves and share the best parenting advice they ever received.

Introducing the first members of the Hillcrest Patch Moms Council – Kelly Brindle and Kim Zannetti.

Each week, Moms Council members will answer a question on parenthood posed by readers or a member of the council. This first week, we wanted them to tell a bit about themselves and their families and share the best parenting advice they've received.

My name is Kelly Brindle, I live in Mayfield Heights and have two wonderful kids and an awesome husband!  Adam is 8 and Jillian is 5, both go to Lander Elementary.  Currently, I am unemployed but after an 18-year hiatus, went back to school full-time at the eastern campus of Cuyahoga Community College. My career is in technology, mostly dealing with the back end of these social networks and the machines they run on (need your computer fixed? Let me know).

My parenting style is laid back, I usually let my kids explore as long as they are safe, but they are a little less disciplined than most I feel. Being a computer geek has its price, I'm always fiddling with my computers instead of getting out more with my kids. However, if it's spring/summer/fall my kids are outside playing and I am glad for that.

There are great parks in our Hillcrest/Mayfield/Gates Mills area, not to mention the wonderful North Chagrin parks!  I'm hoping to review more of these as we go along!

What is the best parenting advise you received?  Mine was from my mom, "humor." At the time, I was like, "What do, I read a joke a day?"  However, as my children still write and scribble upon my walls ... I understand.

Kim Zannetti

I am a wife and mother of 13-year-old twins, Christopher and Hannah.
Our children are amazing and keep us quite busy with their activities, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I am also a full-time working mother. I serve as a school counselor at West Geauga High School. In addition, I also teach at John Carroll University training school counseling interns. This is my 21st year in education, and I am fortunate to be able to say I still love my job. I have taught everything from kindergarten to university level.

I look forward to working and learning from other moms.

I believe the best piece of advice I ever received was from my mom. Our twins were 1 week old, and I asked her: "How do I do this, take care of two babies?" Her response was: "Follow your gut, it will never steer you wrong ..." Priceless advice, and still very true to this day.
