Critter Corner: Charity has Both Faith in People and Hope for the Future

Don't judge a book by its cover

Since Roman times the three graces have been epitomized by beautiful scantily clad women who embody different virtues. Charity, a blocky black and white pup breaks all the rules.

She doesn’t have the slim build and flowing locks of her namesake, but in her heart, she is all that-and more. She incorporates intelligence, loyalty and courage to become the “total package”.

Nothing is known about Charity’s early life other than she was hit by a car and left for dead on the roadside. Her life changed when a woman on her way to the grocery store stopped to take a closer look. This moment made all the difference. Despite shock, road burns and an injured leg, the dog was friendly. She rallied long enough to be helped into the truck; she still had faith in people.

Charity, as she was going to be called, recovered. She showed how she loved to snuggle, play with toys and when she was very contented, make little squeaky sounds in her sleep. A foster home was found, one where she could stay as long as needed.

Then it became Charity’s turn to help with loyalty, devotion and courage in difficult times. Her foster mom is seriously ill and in home hospice care. She says, “Charity seems to know when I need some TLC, and makes me laugh when things get tough.”

Laura Bruck, who is facilitating Charity’s foster or adoption adds, “Sadly, however, it’s becoming more difficult for Charity’s foster mom to care for her, and a difficult decision lies ahead. The last thing we want is to take Charity away when her foster mom needs her most. We want them together for as long as possible, but we need to have a plan in place. To this end, we need to find someone who will get to know Charity—taking her for walks and visits—and be ready to foster or adopt when the time comes. As hard as it is, Charity’s foster mom wants only what’s best for her loving companion.”

If you, or someone you know, has the ability to help contact Laura Bruck at lbruck@en.com or call 216-297-0360. Getting the word out to animal lovers in the Patch area will help Charity maintain faith in people and hope for the future.

She seems to be a Boxer- Pit mix and is a is about 3 years old and weighs 60 pounds. She is still learning to walk on a leash and be on her best behaviour. She would do best as an only dog, although she is extraordinarily affectionate and loving. Charity can entertain herself and loves toys. She is house-trained and crate trained.
