Community Unity Days Festival Opens Today

Karaoke, wing eating competitions are highlights

The Community Unity Days Festival starts today with rides, activities, entertainment and a couple of contests at the city park, 6300 Marsol Road.

The festival begins at 5 p.m., when rides open. Ride tickets are $1 each or six for $5 and all-day wristband for today is $10. Rides will remain open until 11 p.m.

There will be a karaoke contest from 7:30-10 p.m., with categories for ages 12 and younger, 13-18 and 19 and older. The overall winner will get $50 and the top three in each category will receive gift cards. Winners will be announced at 9:45 p.m.

Wings will be the subject of two 8:45 p.m. contests – one for quantity and one for hot wings. The quantity champ will be the person who eats the most wings in two minutes, while the Hot Wing winner will be the first person to eat six Quaker Steak Atomic Wings. Register at 7:30 p.m. Entry fee is $5 and you must be age 12 or older. Winners will receive $50 gift cards.

Other events tonight:
• 5:30 – Puppet Show sponsored by the Mayfield Heights Church
• 6-10 – Disc jockey Billy J
• 6-7:30 – Children's activities, including Hula Hoop, limbo, dance, bubble gum contest and face painting
