Five Players Mayfield Coach Pinto Is Counting On In 2013

These are the guys the coach expects to make an impact this season.

The Mayfield Wildcats will rely on experience in 2013, but not much of it.

For 2013, Mayfield's first season in Division II, the team returns just four 2012 starters, but all are seniors. Two of those players are stalwart, 300-plus-lb. offensive tackles who will open holes for an 1,100-yard running back, who has returned from last year.

"We're starting a sophomore at quarterback, so we've had more passing scrimmages and things like that this summer," coach Larry Pinto said.

He was pleased with the team's performance in a scrimmage earlier this week against Eastlake North.

Here are five players Pinto said he is counting on to make an impact this year:

  • Anthony Canganelli, senior, running back
  • David Khanin, senior, offensive tackle
  • Tony Gaydos, senior, offensive tackle
  • Erik Caronchi, senior, defensive end
  • Alex LoPiccolo, junior, safety
