Unity Days Parade Marches Down Mayfield Rd.
Hundreds turn out to see the big event
The Mayfield Heights Community Unity Days Festival held one of its signature events of the four-day celebration with a huge parade on Sunday as hundreds lined Mayfield Rd. to watch the procession that stretched from the Greens of Lyndhurst to Golden Gate Plaza.
Cleveland Browns great Greg Pruitt was the parade’s grand marshal cheerfully tossing candy to eager crowds of kids who scurried into the streets to catch sweet treats.
Numerous city officials from Mayor Gregory Costabile to the special K-9 unit of the Mayfield Heights police force drove the route, along with the Mayfield High School marching band and various local businesses.
The Mayfield Youth Wrestling Club won the top prize for the best float. The judges included Tammy Clines, City Hall administrative assistant; Chuck Brunello, Jr., a foreman for the Mayfield Heights Parks Department and Mike Scaliro, day camp director for Mayfield Heights.
Here is some video footage of the event.
If you listen closely, you’ll hear Scaliro doing commentary in the background, along with the mayor.
