Tell Us: What Is Your Favorite Holiday Song?

Need a good playlist for your Christmas parties? Tell us your favorite Christmas songs and we'll put one together for you!

Happy Holidays, Patchers!

It's time to start planning those parties and family get-togethers we love at this time of year. If you're the party planner, it's always nice to have a playlist ready to last you through the evening.

We want to help you with that playlist (one thing you can check off your to-do list!) but we need your help first. Tell us: What is your favorite holiday song?

Leave your favorite in the comments and we'll create a Spotify playlist that will run on each Patch site Friday morning.

Yes, that one always causes Christmas memories when I hear it.

I sang in the school choir all the way through high school. It's not Christmas for me without choral music. And my favorite piece of choral music is "O Holy Night" by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Ma’Oz Tzur (Rock of Ages)

Traditional Hanukkah Song

Ma-oz Tzur Y'shu-a-ti
Le-cha Na-eh L'sha-bei-ach
Ti-kon Beit T'fi-la-ti
V'sham To-da N'za-bei-ach
L'eit Ta-chin Mat-bei-ach
Mi-tzar Ha-mi-ga-bei-ach
Az Eg-mor B'shir Miz-mor
Cha-nu-kat Ha-miz-bei-ach
Az Eg-mor B'shir Miz-mor
Cha-nu-kat Ha-miz-bei-ach

Translation:
Rock of ages, let our song
Praise Your saving power;
You, amid the raging foes,
Were our sheltering tower.
Furious they assailed us,
But Your arm availed us,
And Your word,
Broke their sword,
When our own strength failed us.

where to start...

More recent tunes: Straight No Chaser "12 Days of Christmas", "Christmas Can-can"

More traditional: Carol of the Bells, O Holy Night, Angels We Have Heard on High, Linus and Lucy (the Peanuts theme).

On a side note, (which could be read as sarcasm) how has "I saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus" not generated any domestic abuse, especially in this day and age? Plus, I have this hard time believing Santa can get away with peeping in every kids' bedroom in the world, or even spying on them. Isn't that illegal?

My favorites (O Holy Night, Little Drummer Boy) have already been mentioned, but how about "Do You Hear What I Hear?" Johnny Mathis had a great version.

I'm also a fan of Andy Williams at Christmas, with "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year" being a favorite. His albums, along with Frank Sinatra and Mitch Miller (Sing Along With Mitch), were Christmas perennials at our home when I was a kid, mixed in with some country Christmas albums. Could have done without John Denver's "Please, Daddy, Don't Get Drunk This Christmas." Talk about a downer.

Kathy Mattea's "Nothing But a Child" is one of my new favorites.
