SAT Testing at Mentor High School Canceled Following Obama Announcement

Testing was to last from 8 a.m. to 12:45; students will be notified by SAT

SAT testing tomorrow at Mentor High School has been cancelled, Mentor Schools spokeswoman Kristen Kirby said.

Kirby said representatives from SAT informed the district Friday afternoon. The testing session was to begin at 8 a.m. Sessions typically last until 12:45 p.m.

The decision was made to avoid traffic and distractions from President Barack Obama's rally at the high school, which was announced Wednesday afternoon. Doors open at 9 a.m. for the campaign event.

Mentor Police will close some roads around the school at some point between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., but the department has not released details.

"It's not our decision, it's the SAT's decision," Kirby said. "This affects kids from all over Northeast Ohio. They haven't announced a makeup date."

Kirby said 81 students from the region were scheduled to take the test.

The SAT will call students who were scheduled to take the test. Representatives will also reschedule test dates with students by phone, Kirby said.

I'm not being shallow. These tests are vital to them getting accepted in college. They need to be taken by a certain date. The people at SAT should have let us know sooner and moved the test site.

So, how many college candidates had their SAT cancelled today for a political pep rally? I don't care which party was represented, this is the student's high school and their best interest should have come first! I don't blame the SAT for cancelling. I blame whoever scheduled the rally despite knowing the SAT was already scheduled. Surely there was another location available for the rally. So much for education being the priority!
