Police Blotter: Man Caught Going Through High School's Dumpsters
Information supplied by the Mayfield Village Police Department
A resident reported that a man was dumpster diving at the back of Mayfield High School near the wood fence the morning of Aug. 5. The resident was unable to see the truck or the person through the trees, but police discovered a tan truck was backed up to the dumpster.
They spoke to the driver who said a custodian recently said he could have a few items that were left out. The man was told he could not take anything from the school. The superintendent said no one, not even school employees, is allowed to remove any school property whether it is in the trash or on school grounds.
Highland Heights Police confirmed he was told he could not take school property. The items were taken out of the truck. He was told that if he came back, he will be arrested for trespassing.
Weird animal: A Joyce Rd. resident and her daughter reported seeing an odd species of animal lurking about on the morning of July 31. They said it looked like a cross between a small deer and goat or perhaps a ram. It had curly horns, was ivory in color and was very thin. The resident checked the internet and discovered that Chester Township had three different reports of the same animal.
DUI: A driver was arrested for a DUI at the intersection of Highland Rd. and SOM Center Rd. in the early morning hours of July 31.
Stolen cards: A woman reported two debit/credit cards were taken from a wallet inside her purse while working at Progressive on July 30. She had no idea where the theft occurred and it may not have been in Mayfield Village. She was told to make a report with Progressive security and the Ashtabula police where she lives.
Suspicious man: A resident called about a suspicious man sitting on an Oakton Circle home’s curb, and it was discovered he had three outstanding warrants the evening of Aug. 3. He was wearing a white T-shirt, jeans and black hat. The man fled and police went searching but couldn’t immediately find him.
