Police Blotter: Man Avoids Scam

A resident reported receiving a scam call on his answering machine the afternoon of Aug. 22. The man called the 216 area code number left on his machine, and was told to call a 1-866 number to leave his name, social security number and a reference check. The resident didn’t give up any information. The man was told it would be logged by police, and he could call the attorney general’s office. Dispatch called the 216 number and got no answer. It looked the number up on Google and discovered it was a scam.
Youth caught stealing: A 16-year-old girl was caught stealing from Old Navy the evening of Aug. 17. Another girl had gotten away. The girl was told not to return.
Walmart theft: A man was caught stealing from Walmart the evening of Aug. 16. Store security chased the man as he ran down Ridgeview Rd. and onto Marsol Rd. The man was eventually taken into custody.
Exposure: Police responded to reports of a 5-foot-6 elderly woman with white hair, wearing gray pants and a blue shirt that kept lifting her shirt to passing cars on Lander Rd. the afternoon of Aug. 19. The woman was sent to her granddaughter’s home on Mayflower Ave.
Walmart again: Two men and a woman took items valued under $25 from Walmart, but the store declined to prosecute the evening of Aug. 22. They were banned from the store.
Wine thief: A man was held for shoplifting at Costco warehouse the evening of Aug. 14. He attempted to steal three bottles of wine.
DUI: A driver was arrested for a DUI on SOM Center Rd. the evening of Aug. 14 driving a 2001 GMC.
