Mitt Romney and Chris Christie Campaign in Cuyahoga Falls
"Un-employ" Obama! Shouted one of the estimated 12,000 people who turned out to either support or protest the Republican presidential candidate.
Thousands of Ohioans turned out to see Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney at the Cuyahoga Falls Natatorium Tuesday afternoon.
Lately, Ohio has become a revolving door for presidential candidates because it is traditionally considered a swing state. President Barack Obama campaigned at Ohio State University Tuesday just hours before Romney's evening stop in Cuyahoga Falls.
WATCH: Crowd Roars Over Romney's 5-Point Plan
"Ohio, are you ready to get the job done?" asked New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie who joined Romney on Tuesday.
More Americans like Romney this week, but he still isn't as popular as Obama nationally, according to a ABC/Washington Post poll. Of those polled, 47 percent said they liked Romney but 55 percent liked Obama -- numbers for both candidates went up after the debates, reported Huffington Post.
"People at Obama rallies keep saying four more years," said Romney when he hit the stage at about 8 p.m. "They should be saying four more weeks!"
'Leave teacher unions behind'
In addition to talking about the national debt, Romney also touched on international trade and teachers unions. "I will make sure I put the kids, the parents and teachers first and leave the teacher unions behind," he said.
He repeated his promise to repeal Obamacare as well.
Cuyahoga Falls Mayor Don Robart was first in a long line of Ohio Republicans to introduce Romney. "Under Mitt Romney, the rich, the middle and the poor will rise to the betterment of their families," Robart said.
"In 28 days, we're going to have to make the biggest decision of not only our lifetime, but our country's lifetime," said Congressman Jim Renacci.
Other Romney supporters were just as enthusiastic.
"I'm here to support Mitt to make sure we don't become another socialist state like Greek or Spain," said Art Woodard of Mayfield Heights.
'Confidence, charisma'
Stephen Troyer drove from Salem, OH to support Romney because of his pro-life and same-sex marriage views. "This election centers around moral issues," Troyer said.
Norman Brague, of Wadsworth, likes Mitt's "confidence, charisma and hard-line leadership qualities."
Pearl Doherty of Cleveland, and Rita Andrich of Medina, support Romney because they say "his plans align with God's."
At the same time, a contingent of protesters rallied against Romney's views on same sex marriage.
Others showed up to support public television in response to Romney's stated intent to stop giving money to public television.

My eyes glazed over after reading just a couple of posts from shewitchnoname, or was that shrewwithnoclue? I can't see them from the comment box, so I'm not sure. John McMillan...I've often wondered, too why these people don't use real names. But then, they're supporting a candidate and a party that runs on anonymously-donated money from faceless millionaires and billionaires (and changes his position with the weather). Seems cowardly to demand the right to pretend money is speech and not attach your name to your free "speech".
I wonder about all the people who couldn't get in. Was it because the metal detectors sounded so many alarms for the concealed carry guns they won't leave home without? I wonder how those folks who didn't get in feel about their candidate now. He couldn't wait for the faithful? How could you tell he was actually there? I thought he was really a hologram. And now, how can you tell if he didn't instead send that caveman who showed for the debate against the President? Finally, should disaster strike and enough of you get fooled when you go to vote, how will you feel when everything we warned you about comes true? Romney doesn't USE an Etch-a-Sketch...he IS one. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool yourself and there's no end to the shame.

Thank you for your affirmation "No Romney!" Not only am I speaking out in these forums when they've gone off the rails, but I'm calling and canvassing for Sherrod Brown and President Obama and donating what I can afford. I can't begin to match the millions being donated anonymously by cranky millionaires and billionaires, but I've found that talking to my friends, family, neighbors, acquaintances and even strangers brings many to recognize that this election could send this country to being a plutocracy or theocracy or a horrid combination of the two, or it could maintain and hopefully strengthen our democracy against the insidious control of corporations and the obscenely wealthy. One Romney Supreme Court justice changes the balance of the Court for the rest of most of our lives to a Court that will ALWAYS side with the corporation against the people. So take binding arbitration as just the start of the erosion of the people's rights. Then you can reasonably assume civil rights, women's rights, consumers' rights, and a whole host of other rights will be in their sights. NO Romney! and others of like mind, if you've got some time, please lend us some help to ensure we can keep American moving forward.

How about showing both sides, as you are siting the trusted factcheck.org:
We found exaggerations and false claims flying thick and fast during the first debate between President Obama and his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney.
Obama accused Romney of proposing a $5 trillion tax cut. Not true. Romney proposes to offset his rate cuts and promises he won’t add to the deficit.
Romney again promised to “not reduce the taxes paid by high-income Americans” and also to “lower taxes on middle-income families,” but didn’t say how he could possibly accomplish that without also increasing the deficit.
Obama oversold his health care law, claiming that health care premiums have “gone up slower than any time in the last 50 years.” That’s true of health care spending, but not premiums. And the health care law had little to do with the slowdown in overall spending.
Romney claimed a new board established by the Affordable Care Act is “going to tell people ultimately what kind of treatments they can have.” Not true. The board only recommends cost-saving measures for Medicare, and is legally forbidden to ration care or reduce benefits.

Obama said 5 million private-sector jobs had been created in the past 30 months. Perhaps so, but that counts jobs that the Bureau of Labor Statistics won’t add to the official monthly tallies until next year. For now, the official tally is a bit over 4.6 million.
Romney accused Obama of doubling the federal deficit. Not true. The annual deficit was already running at $1.2 trillion when Obama took office.
Obama again said he’d raise taxes on upper-income persons only to the “rates that we had when Bill Clinton was president.” Actually, many high-income persons would pay more than they did then, because of new taxes in Obama’s health care law.
Romney claimed that middle-income Americans have “seen their income come down by $4,300.” That’s too high. Census figures show the decline in median household income during Obama’s first three years was $2,492, even after adjusting for inflation.
Obama again touted his “$4 trillion” deficit reduction plan, which includes $1 trillion from winding down wars that are coming to an end in any event.

I don't really feel like your ridiculous post deserves a serious response. But I'll go ahead anyway. I don't watch MSNBC. I don't even get it on my limited cable offerings and don't really miss it not being there. If I watch TV news, it's on ABC, CBS, NBC, or PBS. I read a ton of online news items, the local daily paper, and I listen to NPR constantly. There I get access to ALL points of view. You might notice that I didn't mention FOX. Well, maybe that's because I consider it unmentionable. A recent independent poll showed that FOX news viewers are less informed and have more incorrect views than ALL, even than people who watch NO news. Is that where you get your information? With mention of death panels and Chinese donations, it certainly seems like it. Yeah,,,death panels are a lie. Informed people KNOW that. FOX viewers don't.

If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you can't, thank a teachers union. I don't like either candidate but he got my vote now. I'm hoping he can get rid of teachers unions and so far he has never indicated he s going to ban any guns. Oh and he actually expects people to work rather then sit at home and get paid like Obama voters. I know thats a crazy concept. Also I think if there wasn't a auto workers union , America could create a car that wasn't completely useless. Paying some jackass $30/ hour to do a job worth $12/ hour makes a lot of sense. Down with the unions! Survive like the rest of us! Sadly America won't vote out their welfare and vote in a pay cut, no matter how badley these uaw bastards deserve it.

I think its too bad that a local forum has now been hijacked by these outside posters.
Thanks for diminishing and trashing a site where many of us came to discuss local and national events with our neighbors and those who care about our area.
These outsiders have found a place to spread their agenda and ruined why we were first drawn to the Patch.
These people, and I don't care what candidate they support, do not care about what is happening in Solon, Strongsville, Mayfield, Lakewood,... They only want to influence people with partial truths and misleading info, with no interest in our area.
On this article, we have from out of area Carolo and Joseph Robert. Any others?

Lyn, if all you can add is complaints about people you don't agree with freely expressing their constitutional right of freedom of speech, maybe you shouldn't participate. And what's with the whining about teachers? Why are you jealous of someone who bettered him- or herself by going to college, getting a teaching degree, working hard to educate kids who don't care any more about getting an education than the parents who made them, and still continuing their education to improve their teaching skills? Why are you jealous of a teacher who will retire only on their teacher's pension and no Social Security? Why aren't you instead jealous, or better yet, incensed by million-dollar (or higher) CEOs who run their companies into the ground, still get their bonuses, and then leave with their golden parachutes intact? Seems like your priotities are askew. And, to answer your question, I don't know about others, but I'm in the area This was also posted to the Lakewood Patch...for what reason, I can't comprehend. If Patch didn't want to encourage dialogue, why would they put their articles in other cities' Patch editions? Frankly, an article about Rmoney wouldn't have interested me, but it was there. If you want unanimity of opinion and no chance to be exposed to others' thoughts, perhaps you'd like to stick with FOX News. They will surely accommodate you.

Robert-
Not sure if you have my comments mixed with others, but...
Regarding my comments to teachers, you missed my point. I was standing up for the waitresses and sales clerks who make very little, with usually no benefits (sick pay, vacation, medical and health care). I compared to other people in everyday life, our neighbors that we pass in the grocery store, worship with and so on. And, when I mentioned teachers I even did say they do need education beyond high school - meaning that should be factored into paying them more. No slam there to teachers - but support to others less fortunate. And that may include some more educated who are underemployed as a waitress or sales clerk.
lyn

And about where a Patch article is found, I think some articles that are not specific to our own community, like a school issue, will be on our area, Cleveland/Akron area, network of Patchs. So, you may see it as Lakewood and I may see it as Strongsville.
Also, you mentioned FOX. If you had ever read my many previous postings, I don't think you would call me a FOX follower. IF I watch cable news, its CNN. After things like the debates, I do flip between the channels to see what they all have to say - and Fox is always the last, after MSNBC. I get a kick out of how those 2 channels put a complete different take on the same thing. But I can't take Matthews yelling at his viewing audience very long. And MSNBC doesn't use many people from both sides in their discussions, so I don't feel like I'm getting much there. I always end up back at CNN.
Lastly, I enjoy reading reading others opinion, and learn from what they might say. So, I if someone has a different opinion, no problem here. However, when I come to the Patch I would prefer to read my neighbors writings and not someones who only was interested in swaying or influencing our readership, because, IMO, it diminishes what this site was assumed by many to be. IMO, it is becoming a political tool.

Lyn...just to set the record straight, "...evil, uninformed, ignorant Republicans...'" are your words, not mine. If you choose to read that into what I wrote, that's your choice. I know that Fox is biased...don't you? I know that they dispense false information...don't you? I also know that MSNBC is out there and that CNN can be tedious, repeating the same stories over and over. I don't watch them either. I'm old school, because I prefer the local paper and major networks, PBS, and particularly NPR, where I know I will hear ALL viewpoints. When I hear or read distortions or aberrations, I respond. There has been plenty in this forum that needed answering. I share your concern if you really care for waitresses and others in low-paying jobs. But what stood out in your comments came across as teacher-bashing. If that wasn't your intent, your initial post didn't convey that. Look at your own words:
"And then lets say you have a teacher, making $70,000 - 185 days/year and 7.5 hr/day. Forget their constant interjection about working all those nights and weekend and all summer long."
You now suggest that you are not singling out teachers, but those words suggest otherwise. Why mention teachers, some of whom (though hardly all) might make as much as much as 70K and ignore the insult of CEOs making 400 times what their average employees make? I don't understand the logic. Maybe you can explain it without resorting to mischaracterizing my own comments, as you did here.
Robert Mihaly
12:12 pm on Friday, October 12, 2012
To finish my thoughts, this story appeared in the Lakewood Patch too, even though it originated in Cuyahoga Falls. As Northeast Ohioans, I believe that we all have a right to know what's happening in our back yard. I don't know how many commenters here are from very far-ranging locations, and I don't care, if they are logical. If you read a wide range of comments in this forum, you'll see references to "death panels" and "socialism" and who knows what other totally discredited notions. It's a shame that such notions are still circulating, because they don't reflect favorably upon those still spouting them, and they don't add to a body of knowledge. I AM intolerant about willful ignorance of that sort. Aren't you, Lyn? Doesn't that offend you?
lyn

Robert-
I do think Fox and MSNBC are biased - and Glenn Beck and Rush and .....
But it is interesting to hear what they each have to say after a debate - complete opposite - but there MAY be some truth in what they say.
When I mentioned teachers, it was after we had also had a discussion of line workers. So I was bringing in another profession. Knowing what teachers make, I went with that number. I could have gone with $90,000+ as one might get in Brecksville or $80,000+ in Strongsville. I asked to disregard beyond 7.5 hours, because I didn't want to initiate some debate between people about how much this person works at home and that other teacher does. You were reading way too much into my comment. It had nothing to do with bashing teachers! Just standing up for the little guy. And, I wasn't comparing to the wealthy because that is not the norm. I'm talking about those we rub shoulders with - why are we even begrudging that waitress or sales clerk when others who are neighbors make so much more? I don't know how better to explain it. I was not bashing teachers here - but what about the little guy?
I'm sorry if I overreacted. I'm tired of being targeted and when you also jumped on the bandwagon, I summed up how your comments come across to me as I read them.
Gotta go - was turning my computer off.

Lyn, after your explanation I'd have to say that I perhaps came on too strong. We agree that FOX and MSNBC don't present unbiased news and do present extreme opinions. But I prefer to avoid them, along with toxic induhviduals (intentional misspelling) like Rush, Glenn Beck, and even ever-negative Kevin O'Brien of the Plain Dealer. I prefer the calm and balance of Diane Rehm or Talk-of-the-Nation on NPR. If you don't already listen, I highly recommend them. ...again with the @#&%# word limit....
Reasonable people disagree reasonably. That's what's mostly missing from all these forums. BTW, the reason I made reference to high earners, Lyn, is simple. They do so well at getting theirs because they underpay the people who work hard from them. That's why we have the greatest disparity in pay from top to bottom that has ever been seen, and it gets worse every day. They see to it that they get paid handsomely whether they succeed or fail. When they succeed, they got bonuses (and often when they fail, too). When they monumentally fail, they get their golden parachute. WE get the shaft either way. Waitresses, mechanics, and yes, teachers, work hard and do vital work. I don't expect they will get the same as the guy who owns the company or manages it, but 400 times more for the CEO? I looked up teachers' pay in NE Ohio. Although some do indeed get nearly 70K, the average in the last couple years for Ohio is around the mid-50s. I would think we'd want the best-educated teachers for our kids. I wish everybody earned a living wage. In my opinion, that is not what Romney and Ryan most care about, and I know I'm not alone, by a long shot. I'd say this discussion has about run its course now. Glad we had an opportunity to exchange views.

My point was -
What makes the over $20 difference and no benefits between the auto worker and the waitress? I'm sure people would feel outrage at a waitress or store clerk getting over $30/hr and paid benefits. Can't you understand them feeling the same towards an auto worker?

They need education beyond high school.
But, should they be making $40/hr more than that overworked, abused waitress and store clerk who do not have health insurance or 15 sick days or all that vacation time and pension?

Watts, something isn't adding up. GDP numbers don't seem to support the unemployment numbers. I suspect the number dropped for one of two reasons (or possibly a combination of both). More people quit looking, thus the pool of "workers" has shrunk or these are mostly part time and seasonal jobs. Also, the jobs report was missing California. I repeat, the most recent jobs report didn't have California in it. That might impact the number a wee bit.

Having my main residence in CA, I have witnessed unemployment levels amongst my friends (mainly in the music industry), that far exceeded the national averages a few years ago. I look around me now and I don't know a single person who is unemployed. So the improvements that I have see in the world that surrounds me actually reflects an improvement that is even far better than what is being reported nationally. And I know that Ohio has a lower unemployment rate than the National average.
