With a live band playing music from the 60’s and 70’s and being surrounded by classic cars from many different eras, Dave Brewster of Mayfield Heights just couldn’t have been happier.
Mayfield Heights hosted its Fourth Annual Car Show in the DeJohn Community Center parking lot with some 86 classic cars and Ricky & The Rockets covering classic rock hits on Thursday night. Standing next to his 1989 Chevy Corvette Convertible, that lot could’ve easily been Brewster’s heaven.
“I just turned 59 on July 31,” Brewster said. “I remember all these cars. I remember driving around with my dad and seeing all these cars. I enjoy hearing all those songs from the 60’s and 70’s. It was a good time then.”
Hundreds turned out for the event milling around the cars and trading car stories after rain postponed the event for a week. “Cars 2” was shown after the festivities had been completed.
Two major awards were handed out on the evening.
Jennings Shifflett, 85, won the People’s Choice award for his 1962 Chevy Impala with 38 votes, while Bill Jones, 71, of Timberlake captured the Mayor’s Choice award for his classic Chevy Camaro RS. Mary Lou McManus won the 50/50 raffle for $110, and five door prizes were handed out.
