2012 U.S. Olympic Uniforms Made in China — Congress is Outraged, Are You? (POLL)
The designer, Ralph Lauren, said he will make future uniforms in the United States.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said the United States Olympic Committee should be "ashamed of themselves" for allowing the 2012 U.S. olympians' uniforms to be made in China, according to a CBS News story.
The designer, Ralph Lauren, recently announced the uniforms will be made state-side from now on — starting with the 2014 winter olympics — following an uproar from the government. Reid even went as far to say that the Opening Ceremony Parade Uniforms and collection of village wear apparel should be burned.
"If they have to wear nothing but a singlet saying USA on it painted by hand, that’s what they should do," Reid said, according to a People.com story.
The Ralph Lauren company issued this statement after Congress and many Americans were outraged by the uniforms being manufactured out of the country:
“For more than 45 years Ralph Lauren has built a brand that embodies the best of American quality and design rooted in the rich heritage of our country. We are honored to continue our longstanding relationship with the United States Olympic Committee in the 2014 Olympic Games by serving as an Official Outfitter of the US Olympic and Paralympic teams. Ralph Lauren promises to lead the conversation within our industry and our government addressing the issue of increasing manufacturing in the United States and has committed to producing the Opening and Closing ceremony Team USA uniforms in the United States that will be worn for the 2014 Olympic Games.”

I think I am mostly outraged because anybody would be surprised. I am outraged becasue the jackets cost around $600.00 and there is no way anybody can tell me that Ralph Lauren couldn't have made these in the USA and not made a decent profit. Instead of a 75% profit, Ralph needs to make a 95% profit. And that is what is wrong with America.

No one saw this coming? Try finding clothing,shoes or a coffee cup that is not made in China.
Maybe we could hire someone in China to be our President? They would do it cheaper!

Again...when did it become ok to make a 95% profit. We are working with the same econmic system that we have had since our outset. I think manufacturers at one time had scruples. Now they don't care. Like somebody said above almost all of our clothes and for that matter almsot all we own is produced abroad. It sickens me to remember when so many died in Viet Nam people were saying they hoped the soldiers didn't die in vein. I hate to say this...but they did. They died so we can get cheap t-shirts.

Hugo Boss in NE Ohio could have made them for Ralph Lauren! He didn't have to outsource them! But when you sell a jacket for 600 dollars, I guess it's all about the profit margin!
